Neck Loop for Mp3 player… More >>

I’ve just ordered this product on the strength of a recommendation from [...] whom I bought my loop system off. They recommend this system for MP3 players, computer, and Ipod.
I’m trying to find a way to watch movies on my computer using my T-Coil’s. I’ve tried using my loop system but couldn’t find any way to connect it to the audio out. This is my last try and I surely hope that it’s not a big a failure as the 1st person’s review.
I don’t have the ear-loops but they are recommended also for audio system. However, my cushion loop with the Univox DLS-50 Amplifier is wonderful. It is plugged into the audio out of my television and a cord goes from that to a mat which I place under my couch. When I sit over that area my t-coils take the sound directly into my hearing aids and I have never experienced such superior sound. I don’t need captions when I use it. My hearing aids are adjusted for my hearing loss, therefore any sounds going through them will be enhanced. The Univox loop system also has bass, treble and volume controls. It can be used with a TV, Stereo, or Telephone.
I have less than 50 decibel hearing and my mother has zero. Since both of us bought that system we have been liberated. So please go to the tecear website and find out about more products available for the hard of hearing.
Will add to his review when I recieve the iLoop. I’m hoping it will work for me.
Okay, just got them today and they work. The bummer is that it only has a short lead and I really don’t want to sit right at my computer watching movies. I will try to see if I can get a longer cord put on it at radio-shack or somewhere. My experience of Radio-shack people are that they know nothing about hearing impaired accessories that are advertised on their company site. It is usually I that has to educate them about their products.
I should be able to use this with my phone should I want to as well. Let’s see what else I can plug this into!

I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by this unit. Really, $100.00 for an assisted living item? Anyway, the sound is not very good. While the volume is pretty good, most of the songs I played though it were distorting. Loud protions of most songs have a fuzzy/low grumble sound. It was not suitable for me at home. I tried in the car, and it didn’t seem quite as bad, (due to the ambient noise in the car.) It was still noticeable though. My MP3 plays great through ear buds, earphones, and my inductive ear hooks. The distortion is clearly from this unit. I even changed the batteries in case the supplied batteries were going flat, but it had no effect. I also tried countless volume combinations on the mp3, this unit, and my hearing aids. Nothing improved it.
By the way, this unit is not stereo. A single, horizontal neckloop can only be monural. What they do is combine the left and right channel, and put it on the loop as 1 channel. Don’t let some retailer tell you otherwise. I knew that, and was willing to sacrifice stereo for convienience. By the way, telephone neckloops don’t combine stereo, so you would get only the left or the right channel on one of those, not both.
On the plus side, if you’re not terribly fussy, you may find this to be better than nothing. I bought this because of the loop. I use inductive ear-hooks. They have much more volume, fidelity, and are true stereo. Problem with them is they are so light, they won’t stay in place, I have to constantly fiddle with them. You don’t have that problem with a loop. Walk, drive, cook, nothing changes.
Also… Telecoils in hearing aids (at least affordable aids) do not pass the entire range of audio frequencies that your ear, or hearing aids do. Therefore, no inductive audio device is going to sound fantastic. But, your hearing aid dispenser should be able to adjust the program (in your hearing aid) to pass more frequencies than the default programming most use for telephones.
I would recommend if you’re interested in trying this item, to make sure you buy it from some place with a good return policy. I’m returning mine. I tried very hard to make this work, because a loop is so convienient. It’s not for me.
